The Proteas klap the Black Caps in Cape Town

Nicky Boje turned an impending loss into a thrilling win as South Africa beat New Zealand by 19 runs in the second Standard Bank ODI in Cape Town on Friday.

South Africa scored what looked like a lightweight 201 for nine after winning the toss and batting on a sloth of a pitch, and then dismissed the Black Caps for 182 in 47.5 overs to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

Latest update:
The Proteas and the new Eagles left-handed batsman, Jacques Rudolph, has been recalled to the South African cricket squad for the third Standard Bank One-Day International match against Kiwis in PE on Sunday. (Supersport)

Ja-nee, we have just managed to recover from last years sevens and here we are getting ready for the 2005 Sevens. This is the biggest party of the year in the Middle East. You are sure to meet almost everyone you know in the Gulf in two days.

This year's SeVeNs is from 30 November to 2 December, and we will really need the support of each and every Safrican in the now “infamous” Safrican stand to bring our boys in green and gold the trophy, like we did in 2002.

This year, the “Team South Africa” shirts are going to be really different to anything we have ever made. But you will have to watch this space to find out. They will be available
in Bur Dubai, Jumeirah, Sheikh Zayed road, the Greens, Global Village, Jumeriah beach road, The Springs and Jebel Ali Free Zone.

Eeish promotes our wonderful
country, South Africa, the Rainbow nation, where you can find an entire  world in one country . Eeish also promotes South Africans living and working all over the Middle East. Viva South Africa

Beautiful South Africa - Pilgrims Rest
Mining in this region of Mpumalanga dates back many centuries, when unknown miners worked quartz reefs in the area for gold. Proof of these diggings can still be found in this area.

The history of this small delightful village dates back to 1873 when a miner, Alex Patterson, discovered alluvial gold on the farm named Ponieskrantz. He had left the Mac-Mac area to search for a place that was less congested.

Though the discovery was kept as a secret, the inevitable happened when a second prospector William Trafford also discovered gold close by. What they had found in this beautiful valley drew optimistic panners and prospectors from all over the country and the World (news of gold strikes of this magnitude travel fast !).

On 22nd September 1873 Pilgrim's Rest was officially proclaimed a gold field and the scatter of tents and rudimentary shacks soon grew into a flourishing little village complete with sturdy brick houses, church, shops, canteens, a newspaper and the well-known Royal Hotel.

The diggers called it Pilgrim's Rest because here, at last, after so many false trails and faded dreams they had truly found their home.

In due course the alluvial deposits were depleted and the locals turned to forestry, but their village, whose residents still number in the hundreds, has been painstakingly preserved as a "living museum" and major South African tourist venue.

Mining in this region of Mpumalanga dates back many centuries, when unknown miners worked quartz reefs in the area for gold.

Proof of these diggings can still be found in this area.

"You are never too late for the Gold Rush!"

Pilgrim's Rest is situated on the magnificent Panorama Route on the eastern Escarpment region of the Mpumalanga province of South Africa.  The area is richly imbued with a diversity of natural, cultural and historic gems.  The uniqueness of this historic village is vividly evident in its museums and historic sites.  It offers the visitor a fascinating window into the past and captures the spirit of a bygone era and its people in their quest for gold.

The entire town of Pilgrim's Rest was declared a National Monument in 1986 as a living memory of the early gold rush days in South Africa during the late 1800s / early 1900s.

Since then a dedicated team of historians, architects, curators and special interest groups closely monitor all developments and refurbishments in the village to maintain its historic appearance.

Please help Lanie Michelle Lombard
Lanie Michelle is the only daughter of Michael and Diana Lombard who live on a farm De Cango, 26 km outside of Oudtshoorn close to the Raubenheimer dam in Oudsthoorn, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Lanie Michelle was diagnosed with Wilson’s Disease at the age of 23.  Wilson’s Disease is a genetic disorder that is fatal unless detected and treated before serious illness from copper poisoning develops.

It affects approximately one in 30 000 people worldwide.  The genetic defect causes excessive copper accumulation in the liver or brain. Copper begins to accumulate immediately after birth and although small amounts of copper are as essential as vitamins and healthy people excrete copper they do not need,  Wilson’s Disease patients cannot.

Abu Dhabi News

The symptoms appear unfortunately in late adolescence and the first part of the body that copper affects is the liver.  Failure to treat Wilson ’s disease causes severe disability and eventually death.   Treatment is aimed at removing excess accumulated copper and preventing its reaccumulation.  Therapy must be life long.  Patients may become progressively sicker from day to day so constant treatment is critical.  Stopping treatment completely will result in death sometimes as quickly as within three months. There are healthcare professionals in a variety of countries to assist in diagnosing and treating Wilson’s disease but unfortunately this is not the case in South Africa.

Lanie and her family are preparing to travel abroad early in 2006 to visit physicians, gastroenterologists, hepatologists, neurologists and institutions familiar with Wilson’s Disease at different liver clinics and centres for liver disease and transplantations.  They have an urgent need of at least an amount of one million rand to enable them to cover the medical expenses alone as the cost of treatment for Wilson’s disease patients are exorbitantly high.  Note should be taken that flight tickets, accommodation and car hire are not included in this amount.

Lanie Michelle needs our support and our goal is to raise at least Dhs10 000 at the charity evening dance arranged for the 24th of November at the Novotel Hotel, Dubai.  Should you wish to receive an invitation, please do not hesitate to let me know.  Thank you in advance for your support.   Please call me if you have any questions or comments about Lanie Michelle or her parents.

Sincerely,

Christo Botha
